It’s Okay to DNF: When a Series Stops Being for You

There is something lovely about finding a series that pulls you in. You get to know the world, settle into the writing, and look forward to spending more time with the characters. But what happens when that feeling starts to disappear? Do you keep going simply because you have already invested your time, or do you give yourself permission to stop?

Why I’m Struggling to Finish Atlas: The Story of Pa Salt

Sometimes, even when you love an author and their books, you can find yourself unable to finish the final chapter.

As an audiobook lover, there are certain authors whose stories stay with you long after you’ve finished listening. For me, Lucinda Riley is one of those authors.

The Final Piece of the Puzzle

Sometimes the last piece of the puzzle is the one you’ve been waiting for all along.

There are some books in a series that you read because you need to know what happens next.

The Sun Sister: Fame, Secrets and Finding Herself

Sometimes having everything isn’t the same as having what you need.

There are some books in a series that you read because you need to know what happens next.

And then there are books where, somewhere along the way, you realise you’ve become completely invested in the people inside them.

For me, The Sun Sister by Lucinda Riley is very much the latter.

This is book six in Lucinda Riley’s much-loved Seven Sisters series, and this time the spotlight finally falls properly on Electra D’Aplièse — the beautiful, famous and incredibly wealthy sister we’ve seen glimpses of throughout the earlier books.

The Moon Sister: Tiggy’s Journey from the Highlands to Spain

The sister who trusts her instincts, follows her heart and takes us somewhere completely different.

By the time I reached The Moon Sister, I was officially past the point of simply “reading a series.”

I was invested.

Five books in, I already knew the D’Aplièse sisters. I knew about Pa Salt, his mysterious past and the clues he had left behind. I had travelled from one sister’s story to another, from one part of the world to the next, and every book had given me another little piece of the much bigger puzzle.

And now it was Tiggy’s turn.

The Pearl Sister: CeCe’s Journey Took Me Somewhere I Didn’t Expect

Some journeys take you halfway around the world before you finally begin to understand where you belong.

There is something quite lovely about reaching the fourth book in a series and realising that you are properly invested now.

You know the family. You know the story behind Pa Salt. You know there are seven sisters, seven mysterious clues and seven stories waiting to be uncovered. And, after reading The Seven Sisters, The Storm Sister and The Shadow Sister, I was more than ready to find out what was waiting for us in The Pearl Sister.

The Shadow Sister: Star Steps Out of the Shadows and Into Her Own Story

The Shadow Sister: A Journey Into Secrets, Identity and Finding Where You Belong

There is something about the Seven Sisters series that makes it very easy to become invested in the lives of these women.

Each book opens another door, introduces another sister and takes you somewhere completely different, while slowly adding more pieces to the much bigger story.

The Storm Sister: Ally Just Wanted a Break… and Then Everything Went Wrong

The Book That Had Me Wanting Ally to Catch a Break

There is something quite dangerous about starting a Lucinda Riley book.

You think you’re simply going to read a story. Then, somewhere along the way, you realise you have become emotionally involved with people who don’t actually exist, you’re thinking about them when you’re not reading, and you’ve reached the point where you are silently willing things to work out for them.

The Seven Sisters by Lucinda Riley — The Start of a Series I Already Know I Need to Continue

Some books completely pull you into their world, and The Seven Sisters by Lucinda Riley was one of those books for me. 📚✨

I’ve seen this series talked about so much, so I was really excited to finally pick up the first book and see what it was all about. And honestly, I can now see exactly why it has become such a loved series.

After enjoying The Lovers, I was curious to see where the second book in the Echoes from the Past series would take me. Once again, Irina Shapiro combines a historical mystery with a present-day investigation, slowly revealing how the two timelines connect.

⭐⭐⭐

The Lovers by Irina Shapiro is not the type of book I would usually pick up, which makes me quite proud that I stepped outside my comfort zone and saw it through to the end.
