Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is Ben, I’m an Artist. I enjoy collaborating and working with others to make Art. I’m 36 years old, I also enjoy swimming,
Hlove music and I’m parent to a lovely little girl, Nila who is a big part of my life.
What is it you do?
Ultimately I like to be creative.I keep things varied so I paint, draw, make comics, collages, tell stories and design things also. My work has been seen in publications, on street walls and at music festivals.
What is inspires you to keep doing what you doing?
The people I work with inspire me. It’s fun hearing ideas, combining ideas and seeing things come to life organically. My work takes me to many people and places I might not otherwise have met or experienced. I work with scientists, other artists, musicians, DJ’s, business people, young people, people with learning disabilities. I’ve been to universities, radio stations, theatres, art centres and schools. I find other artists inspiring, many of whom I’m lucky to call a friend. For me, a great piece of art makes me want to make art so when possible I like to connect with that or go to a gallery. I also like to challenge myself to learn new things, whether that’s learning a new technique, working in a new medium or in a subject field I know little about. My family life is very important to me also. My daughter inspires me, the way she sees things and expresses herself so freely reminds me to try not to restrict my ideas. My wife is an actress and seeing how hard she works and her attention to all the details and nuances of a script and to always seek the truth in what you are doing is also a big inspiration to me.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Honestly, I don’t know. I’ve been on a rather organic journey since graduating from Art School in 2003. Maybe it’s time I started making some plans!
When did you realise you had a passion for drawing?
Since I was a child I always enjoyed being on my own at the table with paper and pencils. It’s a space where I can focus, connect with myself and explore what’s in my mind. Drawing is at the core of all of my work.
Can you please show us an examples of your work?
My website is under construction so you could look at my instagram- benconnors for a good overall picture of what I do and where I go. Here’s a few images-
