It’s taken me a while to write this and I guess it’s because I don’t want to be seen as moaning.
However; this is on my mind, so I might as well let you know.
Why is it that people with disabilities and need care plans from the local authority feel like they get scrutinised more than most people?
If I’m honest with you, there’s no easy way to say this. We do get put under the microscope every year, get reviewed so that they can check on us.
It’s as if they think that within the next 12 months, you should be able to run around and your disability will disappear. Sorry, that’s not the case.
I’m not saying that I don’t appreciate my carers, of course I do. If it wasn’t for them, I would not be able to do what I do. However; it’s not always easy and sometimes, it gets frustrating. Sometimes I wish I was just normal and didn’t need them, but we know that’s not the case and who wants to be normal anyway?
It would take a lot of pressure off of me, my mum and the carers. I say this because I feel that the review process every year is designed to trip you up if you get where I’m coming from. Though I’m not writing this saying things that people don’t already know. In fact, I’ve just finished a project with the local authority to see if we can make it a bit more tolerable for everyone involved.
We will see, I guess. I have my review on Friday, it’s over the phone. No I’m not asking for everything, I just would like to be able to get out more.
There may be a part two of this post, I will see how I feel about the outcome.
Bye for now.
Remember, always be kind.
