How do you practice self-care?

Let’s be real for a sec—self-care isn’t always face masks and bubble baths. Sometimes, it’s dragging yourself out of bed when you really don’t want to. Other times, it’s saying no to people who don’t respect your time or your energy.

For me, self-care is whatever makes me feel more like me—not perfect, not fixed, just more grounded.

🧘‍♀️ Slowing Down on Purpose

I used to feel guilty for resting. Like if I wasn’t busy 24/7, I was wasting time. But honestly? Slowing down is one of the kindest things I can do for myself. Now I make time to pause—whether that means lying on the sofa with a book I probably won’t finish, or just staring at the ceiling and letting my brain wander.

It sounds silly, but doing “nothing” helps me reset. And no, I don’t owe anyone an explanation.

🎶 Romanticising the Little Things

I put on music I love. I light candles that smell like desserts I shouldn’t eat at midnight. I make my cup of tea feel like an event. Little things become rituals—and those rituals are magic when life feels overwhelming.

Self-care doesn’t have to be extravagant. Sometimes it’s brushing your hair and playing your “I am the main character” playlist.

📵 Saying No Without Guilt

This one took me forever. But now? I say no to draining plans, bad vibes, and people who treat me like an afterthought.

I’ve learned that protecting my peace is not rude. It’s respectful—to me.

🩷 Listening to My Body

Some days I can go for a walk and feel great. Other days, I need extra naps and a hot water bottle. And guess what? Both are okay. My body speaks to me all the time—I just had to learn how to listen.

I used to push through everything, but now I try to meet myself where I’m at.

📖 Self-Care Isn’t Always Pretty

Sometimes self-care is crying in the bath. Sometimes it’s finishing that annoying appointment you’ve been avoiding for weeks. Sometimes it’s blood tests and vitamins and not scrolling at 2am. It’s messy and boring and unfiltered—but it’s still care.

I don’t have it all figured out (and honestly, who does?), but I try to treat myself the way I’d treat a friend who’s having a hard time. That’s my version of self-care.

So Tell Me…

What does your version of self-care look like? Is it quiet? Loud? Covered in glitter? I’d love to hear how you take care of yourself when no one’s watching. Let’s swap ideas and keep it real 💬👇
