Which activities make you lose track of time?

You ever look up from what you’re doing and realise it’s suddenly dark outside, your tea’s gone cold, your phone’s on 2%, and you’ve somehow forgotten to blink for the last hour and a half? Yeah. That’s when you know time just packed its bags and left the chat.

Here’s a little peek at the activities that make me completely lose track of time – the ones that sneak up on me like a ninja in slippers. Let’s see if we’re time-warp twins, shall we?

1. “I’ll just read one more chapter…” – AKA the biggest lie I tell myself

Next thing I know, I’ve devoured half the book, I’m emotionally attached to characters who don’t even exist, and I’m Googling if there’s a sequel before I’ve even finished the last page. WHO NEEDS SLEEP WHEN THE PLOT’S THICKENING?

2. Getting creative – crafts, writing, or badly painting something that was supposed to look “abstract”

You start with good intentions. A little glue here, a splash of glitter there… then BAM – it’s 3 hours later, you’ve somehow covered yourself in washi tape, and the carpet may never recover. But you did make a slightly wonky masterpiece, so that’s what matters.

3. Scrolling on my phone – a dangerous sport

Open TikTok to check “one video.” 47 outfit changes, a cooking hack, and a dancing cat later, I’m emotionally invested in someone’s dinner plans in Portugal and questioning if I should try goat yoga.

4. Talking to my best mate

Time does not exist when I’m chinwagging with my favourite person. We go from “How was your day?” to deep chats about the meaning of life, questionable exes, and whether pineapple on pizza is still illegal (jury’s out). Suddenly it’s midnight and we’ve both laughed so hard we’ve done an accidental ab workout.

5. Daydreaming like it’s a full-time job

Honestly, give me a quiet moment and my brain goes, “Let’s imagine we’re on a yacht with a glittery llama who gives life advice.” I blink and half an hour’s gone, and I don’t even regret it.

6. Rearranging furniture like I’m on an episode of Changing Rooms

You know that feeling when you move one thing and then everything else suddenly looks wrong? Yeah. There goes your afternoon. But hey, at least now your lamp is in exactly the right mood lighting position and the rug has found its soulmate spot.

Now over to you, time-traveller:

What activity makes you forget the world exists?

Reading? Dancing? Rearranging your sock drawer in colour order?

Drop it in the comments – let’s bond over our time-warping talents.

And if you scrolled this far without realising how long you’ve been reading… congrats! You’ve just lost time reading about losing time.
