I went into The Endless War expecting another amazing fantasy read from The Bridge Kingdom world, but what I didn’t expect was for Danielle L. Jensen to completely destroy my emotional stability in the process.

At the beginning of this series, I genuinely did not think Keris would become one of my favourite characters. I really didn’t. If someone had told me earlier on that I would finish this book and sit here saying he might actually be one of the best characters in the entire series, I would have laughed and carried on reading.

Yet here we are.

Keris and Zarrah completely pulled me in. The tension? Incredible. The banter? Amazing. The emotional moments? Painful in the best possible way. I kept getting dragged from “this is cute” to “I’m stressed” to “excuse me Danielle, why are you doing this to me?”

I loved the relationship development because it never felt flat or rushed. It felt earned. There were moments that made me smile, moments that made me nervous, and moments that had me sitting there thinking:

“I was not emotionally prepared for this.”

The political side of the story was also one of my favourite parts. Sometimes fantasy politics can lose me a bit, but that definitely wasn’t the case here. It added tension and higher stakes without feeling overwhelming, and it constantly made me want to keep listening because I needed to know what would happen next.

My only tiny complaint — and I’m using the word complaint very loosely here — is the emotional turmoil.

I was fighting for my life.

That’s it.

That’s the complaint.

Overall, this was an easy five-star read/listen for me. The characters won me over, the story kept pulling me back in, and now I’m sitting here needing the next book immediately.

Danielle L. Jensen really looked at readers and said:

“You wanted feelings? Here. Have all of them.”

Would I recommend it?

Absolutely.

Now excuse me while I emotionally recover and pretend I’m okay about getting closer to the end of this series
