There are some authors whose books you can always rely on to draw you into a story, and Martina Cole has always been one of those authors for me.
I’ve just finished The Stretch, and what a book to finish on! This one brings together crime, family, loyalty, betrayal and the complicated relationships that come with being part of a family where doing time almost seems to run in the blood.
A Review of A Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping by Sangu Mandanna
A cosy story about magic, found family and finding somewhere you belong.
Some books are about magic, spells and fantastical worlds. Others are about something much closer to home: finding people who accept you for exactly who you are. A Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping by Sangu Mandanna manages to bring both together in a heartwarming story about second chances, friendship, love and belonging.
There is always something bittersweet about finishing a series that you have invested so much time in. You become attached to the characters, their relationships, their struggles, and the world you have spent so many hours getting lost in. And when you finally reach the end, you want to feel satisfied. You want that ending to leave you with something special.
Sometimes having everything isn’t the same as having what you need.
There are some books in a series that you read because you need to know what happens next.
And then there are books where, somewhere along the way, you realise you’ve become completely invested in the people inside them.
For me, The Sun Sister by Lucinda Riley is very much the latter.
This is book six in Lucinda Riley’s much-loved Seven Sisters series, and this time the spotlight finally falls properly on Electra D’Aplièse — the beautiful, famous and incredibly wealthy sister we’ve seen glimpses of throughout the earlier books.
The sister who trusts her instincts, follows her heart and takes us somewhere completely different.
By the time I reached The Moon Sister, I was officially past the point of simply “reading a series.”
I was invested.
Five books in, I already knew the D’Aplièse sisters. I knew about Pa Salt, his mysterious past and the clues he had left behind. I had travelled from one sister’s story to another, from one part of the world to the next, and every book had given me another little piece of the much bigger puzzle.
Ali Hazelwood’s Mate (published October 7, 2025) is a dark, sizzling leap into paranormal romance that builds on the world of Bride while delivering its own high-stakes love story. At its core, this is a book about identity, agency, and the messy, magnetic pull of destiny — wrapped in a Wilderness Were world where the emotional stakes are just as lethal as the political ones.
Some journeys take you halfway around the world before you finally begin to understand where you belong.
There is something quite lovely about reaching the fourth book in a series and realising that you are properly invested now.
You know the family. You know the story behind Pa Salt. You know there are seven sisters, seven mysterious clues and seven stories waiting to be uncovered. And, after reading The Seven Sisters, The Storm Sister and The Shadow Sister, I was more than ready to find out what was waiting for us in The Pearl Sister.
The Shadow Sister: A Journey Into Secrets, Identity and Finding Where You Belong
There is something about the Seven Sisters series that makes it very easy to become invested in the lives of these women.
Each book opens another door, introduces another sister and takes you somewhere completely different, while slowly adding more pieces to the much bigger story.
The Book That Had Me Wanting Ally to Catch a Break
There is something quite dangerous about starting a Lucinda Riley book.
You think you’re simply going to read a story. Then, somewhere along the way, you realise you have become emotionally involved with people who don’t actually exist, you’re thinking about them when you’re not reading, and you’ve reached the point where you are silently willing things to work out for them.
Some books completely pull you into their world, and The Seven Sisters by Lucinda Riley was one of those books for me. 📚✨
I’ve seen this series talked about so much, so I was really excited to finally pick up the first book and see what it was all about. And honestly, I can now see exactly why it has become such a loved series.
I’ve officially finished House of Flame and Shadow, and I have A LOT of feelings. 🌙📚
After everything that happened in the first two books, I was so invested in these characters and desperate to see how their stories would come together. There were twists, emotional moments, surprises and plenty of moments where I just had to sit there and process what I’d read. 😭
After finishing House of Earth and Blood, I couldn’t wait to dive straight into the next book in the Crescent City series—and it did not disappoint.
House of Sky and Breath takes everything I loved about the first book and raises it to another level. The relationships become even deeper, the stakes feel higher, and the world continues to expand in ways that kept me completely invested from beginning to end
After years of hearing readers rave about the Crescent City series, I finally picked up House of Earth and Blood—and I’m so glad I did.
I’ll admit, this wasn’t an easy book to get into. The opening chapters throw you straight into a brand-new world filled with different species, locations and terminology, so it took me a while to find my footing. At first, it felt a little overwhelming, but once everything started to click, I couldn’t stop listening.
There’s something strangely comforting about returning to Llanfair. Not because it’s peaceful—because let’s be honest, for a small Welsh village it has a suspiciously high murder rate—but because it feels like catching up with old friends.
There are some series that feel like coming home every time you pick up the next book, and the Constable Evans series is definitely one of those for me. Evans to Betsy was another enjoyable visit to Llanfair, this time giving one of the series’ most memorable characters a chance to step into the spotlight.
There’s something incredibly comforting about returning to a series that feels like home. You already know the setting, you’ve grown attached to the characters, and settling into the next book feels like catching up with old friends. That’s exactly how I felt when I started Evan Can Wait.
Some book series lose their spark after a few instalments, but I’m happy to say that hasn’t been the case with the Constable Evan Evans mysteries. Every time I return to Llanfair, I find myself settling in almost immediately, eager to see what mystery awaits next.
When you hear the words murder mystery, what comes to mind?
Perhaps it’s a fast-paced detective racing against the clock, shocking plot twists, dangerous confrontations, or a killer lurking around every corner. Modern crime fiction often thrives on tension, high stakes, and heart-pounding suspense.
There’s something incredibly comforting about settling down with a cosy mystery, and Evans Above delivered exactly that. Set in the picturesque Welsh village of Llanfair, this first instalment in the Constable Evans series introduces readers to Evan Evans, a newly appointed village constable who soon finds himself investigating a suspicious death.
There’s something bittersweet about finishing the final book in a series you’ve genuinely loved. You’re not just closing one story—you’re saying goodbye to a world and a group of characters that have become familiar along the way.
That’s exactly how I felt after finishing Hopeless by Elsie Silver.
There are some books you enjoy, and then there are the ones you simply can’t stop listening to. Reckless by Elsie Silver was definitely one of those books.
After loving the previous books in the Chestnut Springs series, I had high expectations going into Reckless. Thankfully, it didn’t just meet them—it exceeded them. From the very first chapter, I was completely invested, and before I knew it, I’d finished another five-star audiobook.
When I started Powerless by Elsie Silver, I wasn’t expecting a problem.
The problem was Jasper.
You see, Cade Eaton has been sitting comfortably on the Chestnut Springs book boyfriend throne for quite some time now. No serious challengers. No real competition. Just Cade, minding his own business and holding onto the crown.
Why Did I Wait So Long to Read Flawless by Elsie Silver? (⭐⭐⭐⭐☆)
Sometimes a book comes along at exactly the right time, and for me, Flawless was one of those books.
After spending so much time reading fantasy and mystery novels, it was refreshing to pick up a contemporary romance that was easy to follow, engaging, and simply fun to listen to. I went into this audiobook looking for a change of pace, and it ended up being exactly what I needed.
Some series are entertaining. Some series are memorable. And then there are the rare series that make you feel like you’ve lived alongside the characters.
That was exactly my experience with Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare.
After finishing Clockwork Angel, I was excited to continue The Infernal Devices trilogy, but I wasn’t prepared for just how much Clockwork Prince would pull me into the story.
When I first picked up Clockwork Angel, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. I’d heard so much about the Shadowhunter world over the years, but somehow I’d never actually taken the plunge. Looking back now, I can safely say I understand why this series has such a dedicated fanbase.
After enjoying The Lovers, I was curious to see where the second book in the Echoes from the Past series would take me. Once again, Irina Shapiro combines a historical mystery with a present-day investigation, slowly revealing how the two timelines connect.
The Lovers by Irina Shapiro is not the type of book I would usually pick up, which makes me quite proud that I stepped outside my comfort zone and saw it through to the end.
DNFs are never something I enjoy writing about, especially when there are parts of a book that I genuinely like. However, I also believe in being honest about my reading experience, and unfortunately The Happy Hartes Bookshop wasn’t the right fit for me.
Every now and then, a book comes along that stays with you long after you finish the final chapter. Maybe Tomorrow by Michael Wood was one of those books for me.
A Wildflower in the Wind was an addictive start to the Magic of the Wildflowers trilogy and a book that kept me listening for hours at a time.
What I loved most about this story was the mystery. Every time I thought I had figured something out, another revelation appeared and pulled me deeper into the plot. The story does a fantastic job of slowly uncovering secrets while still leaving plenty of questions unanswered, making it difficult to stop listening.
Heat of the Everflame was everything I hoped it would be and more. This series has completely pulled me into its world, and by the time I reached the end of this book, I was fully invested in both the story and the characters.
Glow of the Everflame by Penn Cole | Spoiler-Free Review
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5)
After thoroughly enjoying Spark of the Everflame, I couldn’t wait to continue the series, and Glow of the Everflame delivered exactly what I was hoping for: more mysteries, more questions, and even higher stakes.
Book: Caught Up Author: Navessa Allen Format: Audiobook Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Every now and then, a book comes along that completely derails your plans.
You tell yourself you’ll listen for an hour, maybe two chapters, and then get on with the rest of your day. The next thing you know, you’re finding excuses to keep listening because you absolutely have to know what happens next.
Room 21 was an easy audiobook to get through and it definitely kept me guessing.
One of the things I enjoyed most was that I changed my mind several times about what I thought was really going on. Every time I felt confident in my theory, something happened that made me question it. As a thriller reader, I always appreciate a book that can keep me second-guessing myself.
Going into this one, I expected plenty of twists. After all, Freida McFadden has built a reputation for keeping readers guessing. What I didn’t expect was just how many times I would change my mind about who was responsible.
If you’ve ever read a thriller and convinced yourself you’ve solved the mystery, only to discover you’re completely wrong, then The Boyfriend by Freida McFadden might be the book for you.
I picked up Our Dream Home as my first Jessica Huntley book after spotting it in the Audible Plus catalogue, and I’m pleased to say it was a thoroughly entertaining listen.
The Tenant is one of those books where every time you think you’ve finally worked out what’s going on, another twist comes along and proves you wrong. I went into this expecting a fast-paced psychological thriller, but I wasn’t prepared for just how many times this book would pull the rug out from under me.
Every now and then, a book comes along that reminds me exactly why I love reading fantasy.
Fear the Flames by Olivia Rose Darling wasn’t just a good read. It wasn’t even just a five-star read. Somehow, over the course of a few hundred pages, it became my favourite book of the year.
I finally finished The Bridge Kingdom series by Danielle L. Jensen, and I can safely say I’m dealing with a serious book hangover.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve listened to every book in the series, becoming completely invested in the characters, the politics, the romances, and the world Danielle L. Jensen created. While my ratings for the individual books haven’t changed, finishing the series gave me a whole new appreciation for the story as a whole.
I went into The Endless War expecting another amazing fantasy read from The Bridge Kingdom world, but what I didn’t expect was for Danielle L. Jensen to completely destroy my emotional stability in the process.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
At the beginning of this series, I genuinely did not think Keris would become one of my favourite characters. I really didn’t. If someone had told me earlier on that I would finish this book and sit here saying he might actually be one of the best characters in the entire series, I would have laughed and carried on reading.
When I first started The Bridge Kingdom, I honestly expected one of those books you listen to casually in the background and forget about a week later. I hate saying that because I know “free” does not automatically mean bad, but I think a small part of me expected it to be a little dull.
I have officially finished Broken Dove on Audible and WOW. I genuinely do not know how I’m supposed to move on from this book.
This sequel somehow managed to be even more emotional, intense, and addictive than Silver Elite. From the very beginning, the story throws you straight back into the chaos of the Continent, but this time everything feels darker, more dangerous, and far more personal. The stakes are higher in every possible way — politically, emotionally, and romantically.
There are some books you enjoy… and then there are books that completely take hold of you, leave you emotionally wrecked, and make you stare at the wall after finishing the final page.
For me, Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins was exactly that.
I have officially finished listening to Mockingjay and honestly? My emotions are all over the place.
This audiobook had me switching sides every five minutes. I went from loving Peeta to hating Peeta to wanting to hug Peeta. Then Gale would suddenly say something smart and I’d be like “okay maybe I do like Gale,” and then two chapters later I wanted him to stop talking immediately. I genuinely don’t even know what to think anymore.
Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins is one of those sequels that quietly upgrades everything without trying too hard. It doesn’t scream “look how intense I am”—it just is.
If I had to describe The Hunger Games in one sentence, I’d say: this book grabs you almost immediately and then refuses to let go. It is one of those stories where even if you already know the basic idea, actually reading it still hits harder than expected.
The further I get into this series, the more I love it — and I didn’t think that was even possible after Red Rising. But somehow, this book doesn’t just continue the story… it expands it, deepens it, and then calmly sets everything on fire while you’re still emotionally attached.
Red Rising is one of those books that feels bigger than it first appears. It’s marketed as sci-fi, sometimes lumped in with dystopian fiction, but it reads more like an epic rebellion story driven by emotion, strategy, and raw ambition.
This one was on audiobook for me — and honestly? That made the paranoia even worse. There’s something about hearing a suspense story unfold in your ears that makes it feel more personal. More intense. Like the secrets are being whispered directly to you.
Right, I’m just going to say it straight away — this is officially the best series I’ve read so far in 2026. Five stars all the way, no hesitation, no “maybe a 4.5 if I’m picky.” Nope. Full marks. Absolute obsession.
Right… my goodness. I’ve officially finished Emily Wilde book three and I’m not even pretending to be calm about it — FIVE STARS all the way. No overthinking. No complicated breakdown. Just pure “I loved every minute” energy.
(aka: the sequel that quietly snuck up and did everything better)
Right, I’ll be honest — I went into this one with cautious optimism. I liked the first book, but I didn’t love it straight away. So when I started Map of the Otherlands, I wasn’t expecting to be completely pulled in… and yet here we are. This book felt smoother, warmer, and way more immersive than the first in the series — like the world finally stretched its legs and said, “Okay, now we’re having fun.”
This may sound silly, but when I first heard about Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries, I genuinely thought it was a real book. An actual academic encyclopaedia. The kind you’d expect to find tucked away in a quiet library, written by someone far more interested in folklore than in people.
The Hunting Wives by May Cobb is a book that draws you in with mood alone. It’s glossy, tense, and full of women who look perfect on the outside while quietly unravelling underneath. Think cocktails, privilege, desire, and danger simmering just below the surface.
Hollow is the first book in the Crown of Hearts & Chaos series by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti, bestselling authors known for their emotionally intense romantic fantasy works. It blends high-stakes fantasy adventure with a deeply atmospheric romantic tension, creating a world that feels as dangerous as it is seductive.
Rating: 3.5 / 5 stars (overall mixed but compelling in its own messy way)
If Ruth Jones’s name makes you think of Gavin & Stacey or Stella, you’re not alone — and your expectations likely bring a blend of warmth, wit, and sharply observed humanity. But Never Greener, her 2018 debut novel, is not a comedy with a neat laugh track. It’s a big, emotional, sometimes uncomfortable story about love, regret, and the way our choices echo through time.
You know when a book makes you feel uneasy… but in that can’t-look-away kind of way? That’s The Housemaid Is Watching.
This one drops us back into Millie’s life, except now she’s doing the whole suburban mum, husband, kids, quiet street thing. On paper, she’s finally safe. In reality? Absolutely not. Because if this series has taught us anything, it’s that peace never sticks around for Millie.
The story starts slow — not boring slow, but watching-the-kettle-before-it-boils slow. Everything looks normal. Too normal. And that’s where the tension creeps in. Neighbours who smile a little too long. A street that feels perfect in a way that makes your stomach tighten. That constant sense that something is off… even when you can’t put your finger on it.
Millie is still Millie — protective, sharp, deeply shaped by her past. Motherhood adds a whole new layer to her fear, because it’s no longer just about survival. It’s about keeping her children safe, even if it means trusting instincts no one else can see or understand. And honestly? That internal battle is one of the strongest parts of this book.
This isn’t the twist-heavy chaos of the first Housemaid book. It’s quieter. More psychological. More about watching, waiting, and realising that danger doesn’t always kick the door down — sometimes it waves from across the street.
The second half tightens the screws. Secrets unravel. The tension ramps up. And suddenly you’re flying through chapters because you need to know who’s lying and who’s pretending. Not every twist shocked me, but the atmosphere? That stayed with me.
Is it my favourite in the series? No — the original still holds that crown. But this one feels like a natural evolution. It asks a scarier question:
What happens after survival, when you’re supposed to be normal again?
Overall, The Housemaid Is Watching is unsettling, tense, and quietly disturbing in the best way. It’s about motherhood, trust, and the terrifying idea that the most dangerous things often live right next door.
If you like domestic thrillers that get under your skin rather than scream in your face — this one’s worth the read.
There’s something about weddings in books that makes you expect chaos — but The Housemaid’s Wedding proves that sometimes the chaos isn’t loud. Sometimes it whispers. Sometimes it sits quietly in your chest and refuses to leave.
This book doesn’t ease you in. It grabs you by the collar, shuts the door behind you, and says, “You’re staying here now.” And honestly? I was happy to comply.
Okay… let’s talk about The Perfect Son by Freida McFadden, because this book quietly sneaks up on you and then refuses to leave your head. It’s one of those stories where you think you know what kind of book you’re getting… and then it gently (and sometimes uncomfortably) proves you wrong.
This book got under my skin in the quietest, sneakiest way — and honestly, those are the ones that hit hardest.
The Secret Sister isn’t flashy or over-the-top. It doesn’t rely on shock value for the sake of it. Instead, it slowly tightens its grip, chapter by chapter, until you suddenly realise you’re holding your breath while reading. And that, for me, is peak psychological thriller.
(aka: “Why My Emotions Did a Gymnastics Routine While I Tried to Act Normal in Public”)
If Fearless were a person, they’d be that friend who drags you out of bed at 6 a.m., swears it’ll be “fun,” and then somehow you’re crying and laughing while drinking lukewarm coffee and processing childhood trauma. In other words: this book does. not. play.
Let’s break it down.
The Plot (aka: The Emotional Trap)
From page one, Fearless grabs you by the face and says “Right. We’re doing honesty today.” The story steps straight into the messy, complicated bits of love, survival, and trying to grow into the version of yourself you wish you could be without snapping like a breadstick. It isn’t soft around the edges—more like a sandpaper hug with occasional moments of warmth so good you briefly forget you’re being emotionally exfoliated.
And yes, it has action, tension, and drama, but never in that melodramatic, “I’m going to throw this book across the room” way. It’s balanced. Purposeful. The kind that keeps you reading at 2 a.m. even though your eyeballs are staging a walkout.
The Characters (the disaster darlings we love anyway)
The characters in Fearless feel like real people — the kind you’d secretly stalk on Instagram because you need to know what they’re doing with their lives after they’ve wrecked yours.
The protagonist: Strong, stubborn, flawed, and someone you want to hug and shake at the same time. A premium blend of “I’ve got this” and “actually… no I don’t.” The love interest: Oh, the chemistry? Thick. Tangible. Like-you’re-breathing-the-same-air thick. And none of that fake “we glanced at each other and now we’re soulmates” nonsense — it’s earned, layered, and messy in a delicious way. Side characters: Actual personalities! Actual impact! Not those cardboard cutout best friends who only exist to say “you’ve got this, girl!”
Basically: the cast is stacked.
The Writing (smooth like butter, sharp like a knife)
The style is gripping without trying too hard. Emotional without drowning you. And just when you think you’ve settled into the rhythm, bam, a line knocks you sideways and you need a minute to recover. The pacing? Chef’s kiss. No saggy middle, no rushed ending, no filler chapters where someone stares out a window thinking poetic nonsense.
Also, can we appreciate how the tension builds like a well-seasoned slow burn? I wasn’t just turning pages — I was inhaling them like a woman possessed.
The Feelings (I had all of them. Every single one.)
Did I:
Laugh? Yes. Cuss at imaginary people? Yes. Clutch the book to my chest like I was in a dramatic Victorian portrait? Also yes.
The emotional payoff is so worth the ride. You end up genuinely rooting for the characters, even when they make choices that make you want to crawl into the pages and give them a very stern talking-to.
Final Thoughts
Fearless is the kind of book that sticks to your ribs. It’s intense in the best way — raw, heartfelt, and beautifully chaotic. If you’re into stories that make you feel like you’ve lived through something with the characters (and maybe aged three years emotionally) then this is absolutely your next read.
✨ a short snappy version
Would I recommend it?
Oh, absolutely.
Would I reread it knowing full well it will drag me by the hair through my own emotions again?
Picture this: shadows slinking through ivy-covered corridors, whispered secrets traded like currency, and a campus where power isn’t just earned—it’s taken.

The Premise: A Love Story with a Competitive Edge

Their dynamic crackles with tension from the very first encounter, making every interaction a push-and-pull between desire, frustration, and undeniable attraction.
What Makes This Book Shine
1. Unforgettable Characters
Bailey excels at writing protagonists who feel real—flawed, passionate, and endlessly endearing. The heroine isn’t just a love-struck fan; she’s someone with depth, ambition, and emotional stakes that make you root for her. The hero, on the other hand, isn’t just a one-note sports star—he’s grappling with his own struggles, making him feel just as human as he is magnetic.
2. Banter That Sparks Like Fireworks
One of the highlights of Fan Girl Down is Bailey’s signature dialogue. The exchanges between the leads are quick-witted, sharp, and laced with tension, making every conversation a delight to read. Whether they’re arguing, flirting, or baring their souls, their words leap off the page with humor and heart.
3. A Romance That Feels Earned
This isn’t just a love-at-first-sight story—it’s a slow burn with layers of emotional development. The chemistry is electric from the start, but Bailey doesn’t rush the connection. Instead, she lets it build naturally, making the romantic payoff all the more satisfying.
4. A Story That Balances Heart and Heat
While the book delivers plenty of spice, it never overshadows the emotional core of the story. Fan Girl Down is about love in all its forms—romantic, self-love, and the kind of passion that drives someone to chase their dreams. The balance between heartwarming moments and steamy encounters is masterfully handled, making the book a deeply satisfying read.

sorry for my language, but I bloody love this♥️♥️♥️

There’s something uniquely magnetic about this entry into the Galactic Gladiators universe, and as I delved into the story, it became clear why. It’s more than just action and romance. It’s about loyalty, survival, and a fierce determination to protect those we love at any cost. I approached Beast by Anna Hackett with a mix of excitement and curiosity. As someone familiar with her Galactic Gladiators series, I had a sense of what I was in for—action, romance, and a hearty dose of alien adventure. Still, I couldn’t help but wonder how Hackett would balance the darker, more primal aspects of the title character with the romance and camaraderie I’ve come to expect. To my delight, Beast delivered on all fronts, offering a fast-paced, tension-filled narrative without straying too far into the familiar. In fact, the book surprised me by showing that while Hackett’s signature style remains intact, Beast dives deeper into the gritty, raw emotions of survival, loyalty, and love.

In A Court of Silver Flames, Sarah J. Maas takes us on an intimate and raw journey through the eyes of Nesta Archeron. If you thought Nesta was a mystery before, this book lays bare her complex, often conflicting emotions, and her growth takes center stage in a way that’s both painful and triumphant. From the very first page, I felt as though I was being pulled into the depths of her struggle—her battle with herself, her trauma, and ultimately, her sense of worth.
When I picked up A Court of Frost and Starlight, I was curious about how Sarah J. Maas would bridge the events of A Court of Wings and Ruin and the future of the Night Court. This book is different from the previous entries in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series—it’s quieter, more introspective, and a necessary breather after the tumultuous events that have shaped these characters’ lives. While A Court of Frost and Starlight may not be a sweeping epic of battle and intrigue, it shines in its exploration of healing, relationships, and the subtle tensions that arise in a world rebuilding itself.
Diving back into the world of Prythian with A Court of Wings and Ruin felt like stepping into a storm—one where the winds of war, betrayal, and unlikely alliances battered me from every direction. I knew this third installment in Sarah J. Maas’s A Court of Thorns and Roses series would be intense, but I was not prepared for the emotional whirlwind that awaited me. The stakes are higher, the tensions palpable, and the scope grander than ever before. As I turned each page, I found myself pulled deeper into the chaos, my heart constantly racing with anticipation of what might come next.
I’ve always been someone who enjoys books that not only entertain but also take me on a journey of emotional and intellectual growth. And Sarah J. Maas’s A Court of Mist and Fury (ACOMAF) truly fits that bill. If you’ve read the first book in this series, A Court of Thorns and Roses, you might expect more of the same in the sequel—romance, tension, a touch of fantasy. But let me tell you, ACOMAF is an entirely different beast, taking a leap into a richly developed world filled with complex characters and intricate plotlines that shift your understanding of everything that came before.
When I first picked up A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) by Sarah J. Maas, I had a vague notion of what to expect: a fairytale retelling with a touch of romance, set in a world of fae. Yet, the moment I dove into the pages, I realized that this story was so much more complex, layered, and emotionally charged than I had anticipated. There’s a certain pull that the novel exerts from the very first chapter, a magnetism that comes from both its vivid world-building and its characters, who evolve and deepen in unexpected ways.
When I first picked up Late Bloomer by Mazey Eddings, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. The blurb hinted at a romance, but there was also this undercurrent of self-discovery that intrigued me. As someone who has always been a sucker for stories where characters learn about themselves as much as they learn about love, I dove in. What I didn’t anticipate was how much this book would resonate with me on a personal level.
I’ve just finished reading Kingdom of Ash, the final book in Sarah J. Maas’ Throne of Glass series, and I’m feeling a mix of emotions—exhausted from the intensity of it, yet strangely satisfied. This book is the culmination of a journey that started with Throne of Glass and spanned across seven books, growing more complex, darker, and more emotionally charged with each installment. From the very first page, I was reminded of why I fell in love with this series, and by the end, I was left in awe of Maas’ ability to bring such an epic tale to a fitting close.
“Tower of Dawn” by Sarah J. Maas is a book I went into with a bit of hesitation, and perhaps that’s a sentiment many share. It’s not because I didn’t trust Maas’ ability to craft an engaging story—her previous works had already cemented her as a powerhouse of the fantasy genre. But because this book was, at least initially, unexpected. This isn’t a continuation of the main storyline
When I first picked up Empire of Storms, the fifth book in Sarah J. Maas’s Throne of Glass series, I was already deeply immersed in this world of magic, war, and complex characters. By this point, I felt I had a strong sense of who these characters were, what drove them, and where the story was headed—or at least, I thought I did. This novel quickly disabused me of that notion.
Queen of Shadows, the fourth book in Sarah J. Maas’ Throne of Glass series, is a masterful continuation of a sprawling fantasy epic that grips readers with its evolving characters, high-stakes politics, and emotionally charged moments. As someone who has followed the story from the beginning, Queen of Shadows feels like a monumental shift—a turning point that reshapes everything I thought I knew about the world Maas has crafted.
From the very first page of Heir of Fire, I knew this installment of the Throne of Glass series was going to be different. It felt darker, more introspective, and more complex than the first two books. Sarah J. Maas deftly takes us deeper into her world, not just geographically but emotionally, as we follow Celaena Sardothien on a path that is both epic in scale and deeply personal.
I recently finished Crown of Midnight, the second book in Sarah J. Maas’s Throne of Glass series, and wow—this one took things to a whole new level. If Throne of Glass set the groundwork with a good introduction to the world and characters, Crown of Midnight blew that open and left me reeling with its plot twists, emotional depth, and non-stop action.
Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas really captivated me with its richly imagined world of intrigue and danger. Set in the kingdom of Adarlan, it follows Celaena Sardothien, a young assassin with a complex past and a fierce drive to reclaim her freedom.
Sarah J. Maas’s “Assassin’s Blade” is a compelling prequel to her Throne of Glass series, offering a gripping dive into the origins of Celaena Sardothien, the notorious assassin of Adarlan. This collection of novellas provides a rich backstory, fleshing out Celaena’s character before the events of the main series.
From the outset, Maas’s signature world-building shines. The richly detailed setting immerses readers in a world of political intrigue, magic, and deadly rivalries. Each novella delves into different facets of Celaena’s life and the complex dynamics of her relationships. Maas’s writing captures the essence of Celaena’s fierce independence, her cunning strategies, and the depth of her vulnerabilities.
One of the book’s strengths lies in Maas’s ability to balance action with emotional depth. The fast-paced, high-stakes adventures are matched by poignant moments that reveal Celaena’s inner struggles and growth. This combination keeps the narrative engaging and multidimensional.
“Assassin’s Blade” also provides valuable context for the Throne of Glass series, enriching the reader’s understanding of the characters and the political landscape. Maas’s exploration of themes like loyalty, redemption, and the burdens of leadership adds layers to the story, making it not just a collection of exciting tales but a meaningful prelude to the main saga.
In conclusion, “Assassin’s Blade” is a must-read for fans of the Throne of Glass series and those new to Maas’s work. It offers a captivating blend of action, character development, and world-building that sets the stage for the epic narrative that follows.
