I finally finished The Inadequate Heir and I have mixed feelings with this one.

First of all, I need emotional compensation from Keris and Zarrah because they put me through it 😂 There were definitely moments that had me invested and wanting to keep listening, and I still wanted to know what was going to happen next. The emotional moments landed well and there were some scenes that genuinely pulled me in.

But this ended up being a 3-star read for me because I found parts of it difficult to follow.

My biggest struggle was the jumping between perspectives and timelines. I felt like there were moments where events from previous books or things that had already happened were being brought back in, and my brain was working overtime trying to remember who did what, when they did it, and why it mattered. There were times where I found myself thinking:

“Wait… hold on… have I forgotten something?”

I don’t think the issue was that the story itself was bad. It was more that I personally struggled keeping up with everything that was happening. If you’re someone who remembers every detail from previous books in a series, you might not have the same problem at all.

That being said, I was still invested enough that I immediately moved on to the next book because I need answers and apparently I enjoy emotional damage.

This feels very “Readz On Wheelz” to me — funny, sweet, straightforward, and still gives a genuine reason for the rating.
