Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4 Stars)
I picked up Our Dream Home as my first Jessica Huntley book after spotting it in the Audible Plus catalogue, and I’m pleased to say it was a thoroughly entertaining listen.
The story begins with a family moving into what should be a fresh start and their perfect new home. Of course, things are never that simple in a psychological thriller. It doesn’t take long before secrets begin to surface, tensions start to rise, and it becomes clear that not everyone is being honest.
One of the things I enjoyed most about this audiobook was how quickly it pulled me in. Every time I felt like I understood where the story was heading, another twist appeared and completely changed my expectations. The plot kept evolving in unexpected ways, making it difficult to predict what would happen next.
The second half of the book was where things really took off for me. The pace increased dramatically, and I found myself wanting to keep listening just to discover how all the secrets would eventually unravel. Family drama, betrayal, hidden truths and shocking revelations all combined to create a tense and engaging thriller.
Without giving away major spoilers, the final section delivered plenty of surprises. Several characters turned out to be very different from how they first appeared, and the story took some dramatic turns that I certainly didn’t see coming. While some of the twists felt a little over-the-top at times, they were undeniably entertaining and kept me invested right until the end.
The audiobook narration also helped bring the story to life, making it easy to stay engaged throughout the twists and emotional moments.
While Our Dream Home didn’t quite reach five-star status for me, it was still a very enjoyable listen. To earn that extra star, I would have liked a slightly stronger emotional connection to some of the characters. However, the suspense, pacing and constant surprises more than made up for that.
Overall, this was a gripping domestic thriller that kept me guessing and made me eager to discover more books by Jessica Huntley. If you enjoy family secrets, unreliable characters and plenty of twists, this is definitely worth adding to your listening list.
Would I recommend it? Yes.
Would I read another Jessica Huntley book? Absolutely.
