After years of hearing readers rave about the Crescent City series, I finally picked up House of Earth and Blood—and I’m so glad I did.

I’ll admit, this wasn’t an easy book to get into. The opening chapters throw you straight into a brand-new world filled with different species, locations and terminology, so it took me a while to find my footing. At first, it felt a little overwhelming, but once everything started to click, I couldn’t stop listening.

What really made this book shine for me was Bryce. She is such a well-written, layered character who feels incredibly real. Watching her journey unfold was one of my favourite parts of the story, and I found myself becoming more emotionally invested with every chapter.

The mystery kept me guessing, the friendships were beautifully written, and the emotional moments hit much harder than I expected. By the end, I completely understood why so many readers love this series.

I listened to the audiobook, and the narration was fantastic. With such a large cast of characters, every voice felt distinct and easy to follow, making it much easier to immerse myself in the world of Crescent City.

Although the slower start stopped this from being a full five-star read for me, the ending absolutely blew me away and left me desperate to continue the series.

Would I Recommend It?

Absolutely—especially if you enjoy urban fantasy, rich world-building, character-driven stories and emotional mysteries. My biggest piece of advice is to be patient with the beginning. Once everything falls into place, the payoff is more than worth it.
