⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
After finishing Clockwork Angel, I was excited to continue The Infernal Devices trilogy, but I wasn’t prepared for just how much Clockwork Prince would pull me into the story.
This sequel takes everything I enjoyed about the first book and raises the stakes. The characters feel more developed, the relationships are more complex, and the emotional moments hit much harder. From the very first chapter, I found myself completely immersed in the world once again.
One of my favourite things about this book was the character development. We learn so much more about the people we’ve already come to care about, and several revelations completely changed how I viewed certain characters. Looking back, it’s amazing how much depth Cassandra Clare manages to add without slowing down the story.
I also loved spending more time with the Institute crew. Charlotte continues to be one of my favourite characters, Henry remains wonderfully unique, and the friendships throughout the book are every bit as important as the romance. The found family aspect of this series is one of its greatest strengths.
Then there’s Will and Jem.
I know readers often find themselves choosing sides, but this book made that decision even more difficult. Jem remains one of the kindest and most lovable characters I’ve ever read, while Will’s story completely broke my heart. By the end of the book, I found myself firmly Team Will while still loving Jem just as much.
The mystery elements were also incredibly well done. Every time I thought I had something figured out, the story revealed another layer. The pacing kept me turning pages, and there were several moments where I immediately needed to know what happened next.
Did the Audiobook Live Up to the Story?
Absolutely.
The audiobook made it easy to get lost in the world and helped bring the characters to life. Emotional scenes carried extra weight, while the action sequences remained easy to follow. This is definitely a series I would recommend experiencing on audio.
Who Would Enjoy Clockwork Prince?
If you enjoy:
- Historical fantasy
- Found family
- Supernatural mysteries
- Slow-burn romance
- Character-driven stories
- Emotional reads that stay with you long after you’ve finished
Then this book is well worth adding to your reading list.
Final Thoughts
Clockwork Prince delivered everything I wanted from a sequel. The emotional stakes were higher, the characters felt richer, and the story left me desperate to continue with the final book in the trilogy.
It’s rare to find a sequel that improves on an already strong first book, but that’s exactly what Cassandra Clare achieved here.
A five-star read and one of my favourite books of the year so far.
