When I started Powerless by Elsie Silver, I wasn’t expecting a problem.

The problem was Jasper.

You see, Cade Eaton has been sitting comfortably on the Chestnut Springs book boyfriend throne for quite some time now. No serious challengers. No real competition. Just Cade, minding his own business and holding onto the crown.

Then Jasper showed up.

From the very beginning, I found myself drawn to his character. He was protective without being overbearing, loyal without expecting anything in return, and always seemed ready to step in when Sloane needed someone in her corner. It didn’t take long for him to become my favourite character in the entire book.

Don’t worry, Cade fans. The crown remains firmly in place.

But for a moment there, Jasper made it interesting.

Powerless is the third book in the Chestnut Springs series, and once again Elsie Silver reminded me exactly why this series has become such a favourite. The romance was engaging, the humour landed perfectly, and the emotional moments had me completely invested in the characters and their lives.

One of my favourite things about this series is how connected the characters feel. Every time I return to Chestnut Springs, it feels a little like catching up with old friends. Even when a book focuses on a different couple, the family dynamics and relationships make the town feel alive.

As an audiobook listener, I also have to give credit to the narration. The performances brought the story to life and made it incredibly easy to become immersed in the world. More than once I told myself I would stop after one more chapter, only to find myself still listening much later than planned.

The chemistry between the characters kept me hooked, but it was the emotional depth underneath the romance that really made this a five-star listen for me. There were plenty of funny moments, plenty of swoon-worthy moments, and enough heart to keep me completely invested from beginning to end.

Would I recommend it?

Absolutely.

If you enjoy small-town romance, strong family connections, protective heroes, emotional character growth, and characters you’ll become attached to far too quickly, Powerless is well worth adding to your reading list.

As for the great Chestnut Springs Book Boyfriend Rankings?

Cade Eaton survives another challenge.

But Jasper came closer than most.
