There’s something strangely comforting about returning to Llanfair. Not because it’s peaceful—because let’s be honest, for a small Welsh village it has a suspiciously high murder rate—but because it feels like catching up with old friends.

There are some series that feel like coming home every time you pick up the next book, and the Constable Evans series is definitely one of those for me. Evans to Betsy was another enjoyable visit to Llanfair, this time giving one of the series’ most memorable characters a chance to step into the spotlight.

There’s something incredibly comforting about returning to a series that feels like home. You already know the setting, you’ve grown attached to the characters, and settling into the next book feels like catching up with old friends. That’s exactly how I felt when I started Evan Can Wait.

Some book series lose their spark after a few instalments, but I’m happy to say that hasn’t been the case with the Constable Evan Evans mysteries. Every time I return to Llanfair, I find myself settling in almost immediately, eager to see what mystery awaits next.

If someone had told me a few months ago that I’d be happily making my way through a series about a Welsh village policeman, I’d probably have laughed.
